Greetings and Happy New Year!
We at MDP do hope that you have had a wonderful holiday season with family and friends. Perhaps for some of you, you spent your first holiday alone without your spouse or perhaps child; in that case the holidays may have been a difficult time of year. My love and heart goes out to each one of you. May 2017 be a new beginning for each of us, filled with hope and happiness.
I had the wonderful opportunity to end my year visiting my former church in North Dakota with my son and his family at the Manfred SDA Church. What a wonderful time of fellowship. Manfred church is a very ministry oriented church. Not only do they sponsor 3 MDP lay pastors but have also sponsored many other projects through the years. But not only do they sponsor MDP but another project in Haiti, and yet another one in Belize. They also are seeing converts from their prison ministry. This does not include the ways that they minister and support their community. It was good for me to go back and to see their growth as they reach out more and more into ministry. Result? A church in action and on fire.
Now on to a couple of praises that I can’t wait to share with you: we have now received enough money to begin the water storage tank and gutters for the MDPEC guesthouse. We are hoping to have it completed by March. Also an update on the tractor fund: we are now at $9,445 in the tractor fund. Another huge blessing was the Wander Family Scholarship Fund that we are using for the young women who are now attending college. Without the scholarship fund and the generous donation in our general girl’s fund, we were able to get everyone back into college, secondary and primary school. There were extra fees and expenses with six children going away to secondary school. We are still awaiting the government exam reports for our five students who finished secondary school, and a s soon as the reports come through, we will start planning for their college entrance as well.
Another praise we have is that in March, 2017, MDP will be hosting a mission trip of 43 participants from Upper Columbia Academy. They will not only be holding medical/dental clinics, but also putting in much needed sidewalks at MDPEC. Please keep this group in your prayers as we continue our plans. Also we have a group scheduled for October, 2017. There is still space available on that trip, so if you are interested, please give us a call at 509-443-5666.
We also want to give a big shout out to Jeanne Helmfrid from Sweden, who hosted a New Year Party this year and instead of exchanging gifts, she requested that donations be made to MDP Education Centre. A sizeable donation has been made, so thank you Jeanne and friends!
MDPEC staff and children wish to thank Ellen Groves for the donation she made for the MDP Education Centre in memory of her Aunt Martha Fromia. Thank you Ellen,
and may your memories be precious and warm as you await the great resurrection morning .
All the best,
Maasai Development Project
