  Rescued Children 
 

Women in the Maasai culture, as in many other cultures, are considered second class citizens. They have few rights and can be sent away from their homes at anytime, for any reason. Girls experience the extremely dangerous adult initiation of female circumcision, otherwise known as female genital mutilation (FGM).

Young girls may go through this ordeal upon reaching puberty and can be sent to their husbands' homes as soon as they heal. Some girls reach puberty by 9 years of age and are still subjected to this ritual circumcision and marriage. Although this practice is illegal in Kenya, it is a tradition and most Maasai families still practice FGM.

These girls deserve life, education and freedom to make their own choices. Through the generosity of sponsors such as yourself, MDP gives these girls this chance.
